Meet the Rocksteady Music Group Staff

To run a music school, you need to know about music. Which is why all of Rocksteady's staff, from the directors through to the tutors, have a wealth of musical experience from teaching to recording to touring. You name it, they've done it.

Mark Robinson
Managing Director/Head of Guitars

As co-founder and managing director of Rocksteady, Mark's experience as a musician has many sides to it. Having been the trusted axeman for many function bands across the country, Mark's played gigs in such prestigious venues as the Tower of London and Birmingham's NEC, playing everything from seventies funk to noughties rock. In addition to this, Mark is a respected author and producer, serving local artists and function bands with professional tracks to promote themselves with.

Starting his first private teaching business at just sixteen, Mark quickly established himself as the go to teacher in the local area. Since then, he has taken countless guitar and bass students from their first lessons through to grade 8 and beyond, which have formed the core for the Rocksteady Guitar and Bass programmes. "I've always been interested in creating great musicians rather than just teaching the standard rock tunes and a couple of scales. It pays off when the student wants to get out there and form their own bands, whether its to write their own tunes and record CD's or play covers live, it all comes much easier when you've been prepared." With a whole host of exciting ideas and the experience to back it up, Rocksteady's future looks very bright indeed.

Ian Fellows
Head of Tuition/Head of Drums

Co-founder and Head of Drums at Rocksteady, Ian has been playing drums for over 18 years and was trained at world-renowned music school Drumtech. For the last decade, Ian has been an active and highly experienced musician on the live performance scene throughout the UK and abroad. Credits include performances for ITV, playing with members of Whitesnake and a tour of the Southern United States culminating in concerts at Disney World Florida.

Whilst developing his craft, Ian spent time actively absorbing the teaching methods used by some of the greatest educators in the field, "Rocksteady's drum programme is based on building systems out of simple components, which allows any student to quickly learn the rudiments of drumming and develop a solid sense of musicality and technical ability from these basic building blocks".

Having immersed himself in music education for a number of years now, Ian has developed strong communication skills as well as a patient, methodical teaching style which has reaped great rewards for students across the south of England. Now at the helm of Rocksteday's teaching programme, Ian plans to set new standards in drum tuition across the board.

James Hollins
Vocals/Performance Skills

Known in both local and national circuits for the outstanding charisma he brings to the stage, James is young, full of energy and endlessly passionate about music. However, don’t let his youthful looks fool you, James has also spent the last five years honing his abilities as an extremely able vocal and guitar tutor, taking students of all levels from their first lessons through to grade eight and beyond.

As a vocal tutor, James draws heavily on his experience as a performer, with the aim of making singing lessons more relevant for the next generation: "I plan to equip students with the confidence and musicality they need to apply their skills to any situation," says James, "solid performing skills and finding your own musical identity are both high on my agenda".

With a CV that includes extensive teaching (including those with learning difficulties), leading one of the UK's most successful function bands and a list of musical qualifications as long as your arm, we can't think of anyone more suitable for the task.
